Dear Cadets,

I would like to highlight some mistakes that occur just now during the practice run. Please take note and do not make the same mistakes tomorrow.

When the 10minutes was up, only 1 casualty(Dini) was transported to the base. Casualty 2(Shirui) was treated of sprain and collar bone fractured while casualty 3(Fatima) did not receive any treatment yet.

Casualty 1(Dini): Unconscious with no injuries
Casualty 2(Shirui): Head Injury, Left ankle sprain and Right collar bone fracture
Casualty 3(Fatima): Embedded object on palm, Dislocation of knee and Fractured ankle

First of all, the reporting part took up a lot of time. I believe it was because not everyone was clear what was going to happen. So, during tomorrow morning breakfast, I will brief all of you again.

Evacuation team & First Aid team did a correct decision of evacuating and treating the unconscious casualty first, treating casualty 2(Shirui) second and lastly casualty 3(Fatima). This order is correct as the Life-threatening case should go first. Due to casualty 2(Shirui)'s head bleeding injury, I should go second while Fatima who had embedded object on palm should go last.

Next, most of you do not know what to do and you all were slowly walking here and there. Plus you all gathered around the casualty and started discussing an action plan. You all forgot to introduce yourself as an aider and you forgot to ask for casualty's permission to treat them. Some of you even forgot to remove accessories and the casualty still need to remind you.

As the scene was clear, all aiders are allowed to move to the casualty zone. However, the First Aid team did not take note of this advantage until the first casualty had already reached the base. The First Aiders can make full use of time by going over to the casualty's zone and treat some of the casualty first.

Lastly, the sequence of treating the casualty is wrong. I am unsure about how the aiders treated the other casualties, but for Casualty 2(Shirui), Jolyn started with the sprain first while Minyee attended to the Collar bone fracture. However, the aiders should have treated the head injury first as it was bleeding and it is more important than other parts of the body. Some of your First Aid skill have misconception as well, such as the hand for elevation sling during collar bone fractured and the elevation sling bandaging.

Overall, the performance was an unsuccessful one, but we no longer have any more time to train. I seriously hope for everyone cooperation as well as seriousness because we no longer have time to practice and this is our final FAC.

Earlier, it was shown to me that nobody was serious. Everyone takes their own sweet time to move. What are you going to do during a real fire scenario? Are you all going to slowly discuss and slowly walk as well? Your sense of urgency was totally not there and there are some people can treat the casualty while laughing.

No matter whether it is a practice, a rehearsal, a competition or a real life situation, your sense of urgency have to be there. Any time you waste can cause a person's life to be gone. During a scenario case, time is precious. Every seconds count and every second you have to be doing something beneficial.

I hope all of you can learn from the mistakes earlier and DO NOT make a fool out of yourself tomorrow by doing the wrong things.

Best Wishes
Shirui

Dear Cadets

Thanks for all the effort that you all had put in throughout the entire training for First Aid Competition. (: Please continue to work hard and give your 110% for this Saturday competition. This will be Unity Red Cross Youth final First Aid Competition, so please do not cause yourself to have any regret for not doing well. There will not be a second chance and this is the last time you will be able to participate. Do it well and give your best shot on Saturday. No matter what kind of result we get, hopefully all of us will have a memorable experience of working with one another.

Today is the last day that you all can practice. Treasure it.

Best Wishes
Shirui

Try to help each other out so that all of you can do well academically as well as to lead the Unit well. Do not be too stress over both your academic and Red Cross. If you really require help, do remember the Secondary 4 seniors will up there. (I mean in Class not in heaven. Dear Cadets,

Sorry for this very last minute message. There will be a Gold Modular Workshop on 23rd October 2010 and 30th October 2010. You will need to pass Bronze and Silver Outdoor Activity Accreditation if you want to take part in Outdoor Activity Gold Accreditation.

The Gold Modular Workshop lesson is on 23rd October while the test will be on the 30th October.

Let me explain what I meant in the message I had sent earlier.

1. You need to pass Bronze and Silver Outdoor Activity Accreditation to attend Gold Modular Workshop.

2. Most of you do not have Silver for either Footdrill/ Outdoor Activity/ Evacuation right?

3. If you want to attend, Xingyuan Sir is willing and able to give accreditation for Bronze and Silver Outdoor Activity.

4. So, the entire schedule will goes like this:
23rd October 2010 - Outdoor Activity Workshop Gold
25th October 2010 to 29th October 2010 - Xingyuan Sir will give Outdoor Activity Bronze and Silver Accreditation
30th October 2010 - Outdoor Activity Gold Modular Accreditation (Test)

I am not sure whether you are still able to attend the Outdoor Activity Gold Modular Workshop, but this is what Xingyuan Sir had suggested so that there will be more of you participating and getting Gold for Outdoor Activity. I will need to confirm if you are able to attend without the Silver with Ms Ong and Red Cross HQ.

Do message me latest by tonight if you are interested.

Thank you very much.

With Regard
Shirui

Sorry for the weird posting. I don't know why the paragraphs became like this, but I think it is still readable right?

Anyway, please sign up for the courses because you really really want to attend and not because you just sign up for fun. If you really want to sign up for the courses and camp, you must be able to show commitment to it. Do not take away other people chance of participating if you are not serious at all. That's all. Enjoy your upcoming holiday!

Best Regards
Shirui :D
